What
happens when OACR receives a complaint involving
fiscal misconduct?
In
most cases, the first step is generally a preliminary
fact finding. At the end of this stage, OACR
makes a determination of whether or not to investigate
and identify other offices, if any, that should
be involved. OACR staff review relevant documents
and interview appropriate parties. If the OACR
contacts you, you can expect a courteous, thorough,
professional interview intended to develop relevant
facts.
You
also need to be aware of the University's Policy
Against Fraudulent or Other Dishonest Acts. At
the end of an investigation, the OACR reports
its findings to appropriate management and if
necessary to prosecuting officials. OACR also
identifies and communicates control issues that
may be noted during the review.
What
about maintaining a complainant's confidentiality?
While
in all investigations, OACR exercises utmost
sensitivity to conduct the reviews as confidential
as possible, many allegations simply cannot be
investigated without revealing directly or indirectly
information that may lead to the complainant.
Reprisal against an individual for cooperating
with the OACR is prohibited by Florida Statutes
and by institutional policy. |
